EDUCATION-A ROAD TO FUTURE INDIA

Education is an important part of life. And for the development of nation it is important that’s its people are educated. While talking about the nation it means whole of India and not a part of it. For the development of nation it is necessary that each and every citizen gets the necessary education and not depending on whether the individual stay in rural area or urban area. The development of rural population becomes more important in a country like India where more than 2/3rd of its population belongs to rural area.
As per the provisional data of Census India 68% of population belongs to rural India and the remaining are part of urban population. Now if we only concentrate on development of urban area then it will only develop a part of nation and thus overall development will be hampered and the country will lag behind.
As we have seen that the Government has realized the importance of rural education and is taking steps for it. But with the amount of population contributing to rural civilization, the government efforts won’t be successful until the private sector comes forward and participate in it. It’s not about earning profit but about national welfare and social contribution.

Cordia Education Complex is one such private organization which has come ahead for the rural development. As it is said “EDUCATION IS MORE THAN A LUXURY, IT IS A RESPONSIBILITY THAT SOCIETY OWES TO ITSELF”. So the right to education belongs to all and it is our responsibility that we work towards it. The Cordia Complex has set an example in front of us, and we should help them achieve the aim of rural education and move ahead in the path set by them.
It is a very good initiative taken and we do hope for the success of the initiative. However in order to bring about complete development such initiatives needs to be taken up in each region of the country and we all should raise our hands for the same.

We all should learn from them and work for our nation. It’s our nation and we owe a responsibility to it.

In the end I want to end with a famous quote from Benjamin Disraeli-

“Upon the education of the people of this country, the fate of this country depends.”

One drop of petrol!!!!

Petrol prices are going up and up everyday..It looks like it is showing people its value!! A time has come where people who used to waste petrol by going on long drives are now trying every bit to save a drop of it.
The increase in price of petrol is making it difficult for the middle class families as it had led to inflationary pressure on the economy. The only benefit is that people have now realized what petrol means, and are preserving it.

Now looking at the alternatives of fuel so as to fight inflation people should now move to past and use Horses and horse carts as the mode of transport. This means will be a cheap mode and an added benefit would be that it is an Eco-Friendly method and believe me driving a horse is much more fun than driving a bike or a car...Think of a situation where hundreds of horses are running on road instead of cars..Amazing Na!!!

Well this was just a mockery of government decisions who don't think about the society before taking such harsh steps. If they really cared about the companies making huge losses than they could have cut down on excise duty and other taxes which contributes to around 50% of what the fuel costs to us. The taxes can easily be increased on alcohols and cigarettes which would help government to cover up the lost revenues and it would also help in decreasing its consumption!!!

Thus, I just want to say that the government should take proper measure so that the whole society benefits and to curb down on the gap between rich and poor...

The Wall of Indian Cricket

Rahul Dravid popularly known as the wall of Indian Cricket has announced his retirement from international cricket on 9th March,2012.He has already taken retirement from one day cricket and T-20's and now it was the time for test cricket.

Not only an amazing batsman but also an amazing human being,he has given a lot for Indian Cricket. And i feel it will be an end of an era by his retirement. He didnt get as much credits as he deserved as his performance was overshadowed by others. He ends his career with 13288 runs, including 36 centuries and 63 half centuries at an average of 52.31 from 164 tests, with 270 being his highest score.

Rahul Dravid has done a lot for Indian Cricket and had played many match winning knocks for the team.He has always gone an extra mile while performing and played his heart out.He literally shed sweat and blood while rescuing his team from various sticky situations.

Who can forget the India-Australia match at Edens??India had faced a follow-on and were facing loss but for Dravid who fought out and brought India to a marvelous win.

As said by Lee-"A phenomenal batsman and a great human being."

Dravid was the one who taught many youngsters how to stay positive and calm in tough times. He taught us how to fight back and to never let your critics outplay you.In overseas situations where the whole Indian batting line would collapse,it was he who would fight alone and save the pride of the nation. He may have been critisized for his defense style play but he knew how he played and his performances speak for him.

It was an honour for us to watch him play and he would always be cherished by all.
We will miss you Rahul..You are a true hero and we hope you stay connected with Indian cricket in some way or other.

VODAFONE TAX DISPUTE-A LANDMARK FOR INDIA'S TAX STRUCTURE.........

Vodafone tax dispute is in news for a long period of time though many of us are still unaware what the dispute is all about. This dispute is one of the biggest controversy in Indian multijurisdictional M&A history. The tax liabilty in this particular case could  have been around 12000 crores plus interests and penalties. The case has been decided in favour of Vodafone as the Supreme Court said-"The Indian Tax authorities don’t have jurisdiction over the overseas transaction. There was no “Indian nexus.” Vodafone don’t have to pay anything; they’ll  get back, with interest, the funds they have in escrow."

AN OVERWIEW OF THE CASE

Hutchison Telecommunication International Ltd (HTIL), a company incorporated in Cayman Islands and having its principal excecutive office in Hong Kong held 66.9848% interest in an Indian company Hutchison Essar Ltd (HEL). The balance share was held by Essar Group of Companies.HEL along with other subsidiaries held license for providing cellular services in 23 circles.

In February,2007 Vodafone entered into a share purchase agreement with HTIL through its Netherland entity.Vodafone purchased the shares of the Indian company from HTIL in a $11.2 billion deal of Hutch-Vodafone.

Through this deal Hutchison made huge capital gains. The case was a case involving foreign seller and so as per Indian tax rule it is the duty of the seller to deduct tax at source as the seller could vanish after the agreement and it would be difficult to trace them. The buying company holds Indian assets and in case of default those asset could be attached.

As per Vodafone the transaction was conducted outside India and so it is not liable to pay taxes, however as per I-T Department the deal involved asset situated in India and so it was liable to be taxed.

The Supreme Court finally gave its verdict saying that the capital gain tax does not apply to cross-border M&A deal.It would rewrite the law regarding Indian M&A tax liabilty.

Various other companies  such as AT&T and SABMiller are fighting similar types of case in various courts.

SHISHA a.k.a HOOKAH............

Hookah taking is increasing  day by day and specially among the teens......Many teenagers are getting attracted towards it due to the influence of friends and even because they think it is as a "fashion trend" of today. Most of the people think that hookah smoking is safer than other forms of smoking. But the truth is hookah is much more harmful and dangerous than smoking cigarette.

People strongly believes that the water in hookah filters out all intoxic and harmful gases from smoke but it is an utter nonsense.A study by WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION showed that taking hookah for few hours is equal to taking up 100 cigarettes.Hookah carries much more nicotine than cigarettes do due to the amount of smoke we take in.Infact hookah carries much more smoke than cigarettes.

Some of the facts which most of us are unaware about Hookah:-
  1. Hookah contains 69 different  carcinogens.
  2. Half an hour of Hookah session is equal to chain smoking half pack of cigarettes.
  3. There are over 250 different kinds of flavours in hookah which is rising continuously.
  4. Water pipe smokers are 7 times more likely than non-smokers to how signs of mouth cancer and gum disesases.
  5. Hookah users may become infected with herpes.
  6. Hookah use may lead to infertility and impotency.

And the list continues....Such are the harmful affects of taking hookah.I believe that an indivisuals health is much more important than an hour of show-off and this kind of fun.And would like to make an appeal to all......."SAY NO TO SMOKING AND HOOKAH"
